Global AZ: Development Futures

Spring 2026: Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM
Durham Hall, DH135 (Session C)

What is global development?

—————————————————————

How have concepts of global development changed?

—————————————————————

How is global development measured and visualized?

—————————————————————

How is development work practice?

—————————————————————

How is meaning constructed and produced with narratives and discourse?

How have concepts and practices of “development” evolved across political, economic, and social contexts in the U.S., Arizona, and globally, and how can students contribute to shaping future development initiatives through collaborative planning?

Investigate how global development shapes our world—including the state of Arizona. Work with two leading, interdisciplinary experts who tackle some of today’s most pressing development challenges aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students will apply newly gained skills to develop a collaborative inquiry project that connects a global development concern with local contexts then develop a public-facing outcome that leads to greater wellbeing and prosperity for all.

Honors students will receive HON credit for this course. HUAD general studies credit (pending).

Seize the Moment

This Lab is presented through Seize the Moment, an initiative of Leonardo, the Humanities Lab, and the Global Futures Laboratory at Arizona State University. In an alarming syndemic of intersecting crises—the coronavirus pandemic, racial injustice and accompanying civil unrest, and cascading environmental hazards—Seize the Moment addresses the grand challenges of the day through transdisciplinary arts, science, technological, and humanities collaborations in research, pedagogy, and public engagement.
