What is our current digital trajectory, and is it a future we want?

Who holds power in digital systems and how is that power exercised, hidden, or justified?

How do algorithmic systems encode values, assumptions, and exclusions, whether intentionally or not?

When technology "optimizes," what human, social, or trade-offs are being made?

What happens to empathy, conflict, and community when human interaction is mediated by technology?
How do algorithms and artificial intelligence shape what it means to be human—and how can we design digital futures that center ethics, equity, and empathy?
What does it mean to be human in a world shaped by algorithms, data, and artificial intelligence. This Humanities Lab invites students to investigate how digital technologies shape identity, creativity, and community––and how they can be used to build more ethical, equitable, and empathetic futures. Working in teams, students design proposals or prototypes that address real-world issues through digital research and design. By analyzing culture, interpreting digital expression, and connecting innovation with tradition, this course equips students to navigate our evolving digital landscape with critical insight, imagination, and a commitment to the human at its center.
