Intro to Interdisciplinary Research

Spring 2027: Online

i/oCourse (Session B)

What is the relationship between disciplines and interdisciplinarity?

—————————————————————

What insights do different disciplines offer? How do they conduct research?

—————————————————————

How does someone conduct interdisciplinary research? Why engage in it with others?

—————————————————————

What does successful collaboration look like? What does it take to do it?

What is interdisciplinary research? Why is it increasingly recognized as important?

Where does meaningful research begin? It begins with curiosity, good questions, and a willingness to tackle complex challenges from more than one perspective. Working in interdisciplinary teams, students investigate a real-world challenge of their choosing while learning how to ask stronger research questions, evaluate evidence, navigate uncertainty, and design ethical approaches to inquiry. As teams integrate different perspectives and methods, they discover new ways of understanding complex problems and develop a public-facing research proposal that lays the groundwork for future action, community partnerships, and lasting impact.
