Seeking Truth: Misinformation

Spring 2026: Tuesday and Thursday, 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM
Walton Center for Planetary Health, WCPH 409 (Session C)

What does mis/disinformation look like in low-to-no connectivity places - in the US and around the world?

—————————————————————

How and why does mis/disinformation spread in these areas?

—————————————————————

How does it affect people’s lives?

—————————————————————

What culturally or historically specific factors contribute to the spread of mis/disinformation?

Why is misinformation a problem and what are the factors that exacerbate it in Arizona?

Take a hands-on, team-based approach to addressing global challenges related to mis- and dis-information in places with low- or no-connectivity. Build skills in cross-cultural communication, empathy, media literacy, and community engagement to prepare for real-world intervention design. Each student team will develop its own project based on shared interests and research. Projects may involve collaborations with initiatives like ASU’s SolarSPELL, where teams create educational tools for communities with limited literacy, internet access, or tech skills. Other projects might focus on raising awareness or advocating for change among the public, policymakers, or tech companies.

Honors students will receive HON credit for this course. HUAD general studies credit.
