—————————————————————
What could medical care, legal systems, and classrooms look like in an AI-driven future?
—————————————————————
How should we understand concepts like “fair AI,” and who decides what is fair?
How can AI-driven transformations in health, criminal justice, and education be ethically governed to maximize human flourishing, guard against over-dependence and social disconnection, and ensure a just allocation of resources?
Examine foundational assumptions concerning AI from its initial creation and envisioned usage through its implementation and effects on society. Investigate how AI is transforming society and reshaping people’s lives in health care, criminal justice, and education. Imagine the future of AI and how the realization of that future affects our lives and society at large, especially the opportunities and risks at stake. Play an active role in collaboratively designing an ethical or policy framework for AI that addresses these potential futures. Students will gain skills in critical assessment and engage in urgent ethical and policy debates shaping our shared future.
Honors students will receive HON credit for this course. CIVI general studies credit.
