—————————————————————
What are strategies that have proven effective globally in mitigating the impacts of misinformation, and what are potential approaches that could be tailored for local implementation in Arizona?
—————————————————————

How can we create an information and public debate ecosystem that values and promotes truth and weeds out intentional and negligent misinformation?
Why is misinformation a problem and what are the factors that exacerbate it in Arizona?
From ancient to modern times, false narratives persist, though today they are amplified by the digital era and its numerous tools (ex. AI) and platforms (ex. TikTok). This surge has profound global to local repercussions, impacting media, politics, science, and economics while eroding trust in institutions, between communities, and affecting individual behaviors. Through interactive sessions, we will contextualize misinformation, analyze challenges including those unique to AZ, examine short- and long-term consequences, explore mitigation strategies, and discuss ways to create a truthful information ecosystem. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and collaborative projects, participants will gain practical insights and tools to combat misinformation effectively.
